AndrewP: hi Vance NinaTL hugs vance VanceS walks in carrying an umbrella HoracioHI: Hi Vance VanceS: Hi everyone RitaZ: hi, Vance, welcome! BarbaraS1: it was kind of rehashing the same ideas VanceS: sorry I'm late HoracioHI: Vance. Is it raining? DennisOl: Horacio: I understand "older but no wiser," but I think I'm actually a little wiser. VennyS waves to Head of webheads BarbaraS1: it was just a bit VanceS: yes, unusually RitaZ agrees with Dennis VanceS . o O ( wonders how Horacio knew ) HoracioHI: Dennis. More than wiser DennisOl: I think you are, too, Horacio. NinaTL: Rita thanks for your funwall post JeffC: anyone here familiar with KnowSchools? RitaZ: you mean much oledr than wiser, Horacio?? HoracioHI left the room (signed off). DennisOl: And Horacio, I think you've made remarkable progress in using your computer. RitaZ: yes, Jeff, at Knowplace JeffC: too late Dennis! BarbaraS1: great JeffC: right... I'm holding a session with Bj from February 3rd through 8th. DennisOl: Yeah, and that's too bad, Jeff. Horacio's progress has been phenomenal. RitaZ: what on, Jeff? DennisOl: Do you remember, Rita and Nina, all the problems that Horacio had last year? VanceS was wondering that too NinaTL: I signed up for the Google Earth weekend but didn't have enough time to do very much NinaTL: It got me started with GE, though DelinC: Sorry. how do I get Yahoo group? RitaZ: sma happened to me, keep saving sites for future use RitaZ: same AndrewP: Vance how did the EVO 2008 session on Tagging go this past week VanceS: which Yahoo Group? DennisOl: Which Yahoo Group, Delin? VanceS: Hi Andy, nice to see you VanceS: we got a recording of it DennisOl: Andy! JeffC: http://snurl.com/waldenu DennisOl: It's wonderful to see you here! JeffC: whoops JeffC: POWERFUL & FREE COLLABORATION APPROACHES, SUPPORT & TOOLS FOR EDUCATORS DennisOl: Sounds great, Jeff! VanceS: here's the recording of the session on tagging https://sas.elluminate.com/p.jnlp?psid=2008-01-22.0130.M.7AE801FFB697DA460D4BF25AA8C21B.vcr DennisOl: Thanks, Vance. AndrewP: thanks, I'll check it out when I get up for my first cup of coffee this AM DelinC: thanks, Vance JeffC: we'll be covering sites including QuestAtlantis, WhyVille, SecondLifeTeens, Yugma, WizIQ, AccuConference, Web 2.0 sites (Ning, etc.) and of course Tapped In DelinC left the room (signed off). DelinC joined the room. DennisOl: Delin: Here's the Yahoo Group for Blogging for Educators: VanceS: what's that about Jeff? DennisOl: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/blogging4educators DennisOl: Welcome back, Delin. RitaZ: the number of new toold getting in is amazing, so difficult to get updated JeffC: it's a 5 day course that BjB and I will be holding from February 3rd through 8th at KnowSchools. DennisOl: I don't think anyone is ever completely updated, Rita. BarbaraS1: impossible BarbaraS1: for someone to be updated completely JeffC: that's the main point behind collaboration. VanceS: is knowschools a part of KnowPlace? JeffC: yes DennisOl: I think about the best we can do is to be aware that things are changing--and to have a way of keeping informed of at least some of the new developments. RitaZ: yeah, but TIME is needed VanceS: I would imagine this is for paid participants? JeffC: yes... i think the fee is $175. NinaTL: Jeff, I can tell you unequivocally that I will not have time to even think about signing up for that DennisOl: Venues like KnowPlace and the Webheads are great ways of helping us keep informed. VanceS: yes, and providing opportunities like the one Jeff has BarbaraS1: yes at least you can get to the tip of the iceberg DennisOl: For sure, Bobbi! DennisOl: Definitely, Vance. JeffC: http://knowschools.ca/moodle/course/view.php?id=67 RitaZ: then dive in..., when you have the time, yes, Bobbi DennisOl: For many of us, Jeff, $175 is too costly. JeffC: tell me about it! DennisOl: I knew you'd react that way! DennisOl chuckles RitaZ: I have to multiply that by 3,20, really costly :-( JeffC: personally i think all courses like this should be free... and the presenters should get paid from a magic fund. VanceS: who enrolls in this kind of course? NinaTL: Ouch, Rita JeffC: well... last year... not enough to get it going! DennisOl: Ouch, indeed! JeffC: that's one of the many problems with professional development. NinaTL: Yes, it's where the magic fund comes from that is the problem NinaTL: I am amazed at how much continues to be available free online JeffC: i can spend hours (days/weeks/months) putting things together only to have not enough participation to make it worthwhile. NinaTL: I am not a big spender! RitaZ: so we can share rooms, Nina :-) VanceS: the best way to learn is to teach BarbaraS1: sometimes people only take something seriously if they pay for it VanceS: is that a clue for why sharing works? NinaTL: When I look at sponsored websites, I don't even see the ads that are there NinaTL: I don't know how these places make any money because they sure don't make any from me RitaZ: nope, vance, not only :-) AndrewP: I see a demographic shift in the area of even paid enrollment at higher ed institutions, at least in the US DennisOl: I completely agree, Vance. That turns into co-teaching and co-learning if you're lucky, and THAT is a magical situation. JeffC hasn't looked at his sponsored links in gmail for years now! DennisOl: Tell us more, Andy. AndrewP: our college , City Colleges of Chicago has lost over 100,000 students over the past 8 years NinaTL: Rita, our next challenge will be to figure out how to eat on the cheap in NY JeffC: were they rubbed out by the mob, Andrew? DennisOl: Lost to what, Andy? VanceS: have hey moved somewhere else andy? NinaTL: I hope volunteerting at the EV will get us at least one free lunch JeffC watched The Godfather earlier tonight. RitaZ: anything is good to me, Nina :-) AndrewP: and during my meeting with Sally La Lazerne-OI yesterday she said Hawaii Pacific Un. has love almost half their enrollment in the ESL Dept and has closed it down VanceS: gosh I used to live near there AndrewP: in her case due to the difficulties of obtaining visas for foreign students afte 9 11 RitaZ: yes, I've put in my name for one morn, Nina DelinC: Jeff. how do I register your enrolment at knowschools? DennisOl: Where did the ESL students from Hawai'i Pacific go, Andrew? JeffC: <sarcasm> great andrew! </sarcasm> DennisOl: Ah, I see, Andrew. JeffC: Delin... I think if you follow this link: http://knowschools.ca/moodle/course/view.php?id=67 ... you might be able to enroll. AndrewP: i think more are gong on line to obtain their knowledge and experience NinaTL: Which day and time, Rita? RitaZ: Thursday, whole morn DennisOl: In Arizona (where I am), things are getting much tougher for "undocumented aliens." It's having an impact on enrollment in ESL classes in all levels, but it's difficult to know how big the impact is at the moment. VanceS: people still need certification so I doubt if lower enrolment can be attributed to free sharing online AndrewP: Manpower, a large international US company based in Milwaukee with 85,000 employees is providing free online ed to over 85,000 of their workers with 5,000 online courses and an island in Second Life DennisOl: Wow! VanceS: so education is a perk then PattiGH joined the room. NinaTL: Several ESL programs closed around here NinaTL: American U, george Washington U PattiGH left the room. NinaTL: Only Georgetown U is going strong DennisOl: I think many people enrolling in online courses don't realize that the credits that they earn may not be acceptable by such things as Teacher Certification units. NinaTL: Our program at UM was cut in half and we have not recovered DennisOl: . . . or Hiring Committees at Community Colleges and Universities. NinaTL: Our IEP is very small, only about 60 students AndrewP: Manpower just held the first virtual Job Fair recruiting online virtual workers. They are building a "stable" of online workers who will be outsourced to other large international clients for projects VanceS: if there is a big movement to paid online tuition wouldn't that favor people like us? DennisOl: Yes, definitely, Vance. DennisOl: But the learning curve is steep for people joining CoPs that are as active as the Webheads. NinaTL: It would favor the teachers but not the learners, Vance! AndrewP: more universities and colleges are requiring students to take online courses, but they are mostly async courses, very few are sync like we do with the Webheads DennisOl: For many newbies to active CoPs like the Webheads, the initial shock is something that's difficult to deal with. JeffC . o O ( polysync ) VanceS: Polysync definitely NinaTL: I think there should be some synchronous activity because it builds community AndrewP: it's the old subject we used to revisit each year with Global Learn Day, the resistence to change with institutions and k-12 administrators VanceS: async mostly, but synch to touch base DennisOl: Definitely, Andrew--and many of these async courses are really just "cookie cutter" templates and very static and non-participative. NinaTL: For example, the KnowSchools weekend I did was all asynchronous (I think) and was less stimulating for me DennisOl: Definitely, Andy! NinaTL: even though Google Earth is simply awesome! JeffC laughs when he hears the argument that online ed is "impersonal"... especially when I think back to the lecture halls at Wheeler in Berkeley... taking Econ1 with 800 other students... and 60 in sections. VanceS: good point Jeff NinaTL: Providing a personal touch has always been a challenge for large institutions DennisOl: Andy: Jeff was talking at length earlier about challenges he's had in dealing with the resistance to change in educational institutions. VanceS: but that and online components could be a strong combo NinaTL: At UM, there are a number of "living/learning communities" for undergraduates AndrewP: and the impact of this global rescession beginning in the US will hit education in the US, at least, even harder because of the way education is funded here VanceS: want to recap for us Jeff, or Dennis? NinaTL: Students live in dorms together and there is some coordination of courses NinaTL: It's a way to make a large campus seem more personal DennisOl: Jeff: What's PERCEIVED as "personal" and "impersonal" may be far from the reality. DennisOl: I'll let Jeff do that, Vance. DennisOl: I knew to be AFK for a few minutes . . . . . NinaTL: http://www.resnet.umd.edu/acadhall.html and scroll down a bit to "What are living-learning communities? JeffC: hmmm... recap... ok: i'm depressed because i haven't been gainfully employed for almost 4 years since being laid off from Pacific University (as the college of ed's edtech specialist). i've been trying to convince the local school district to hire me as a support specialist for the 5000 students, teachers, parents ever since. each year there has always been some reason why they won't (usually money... this year it was "admins are too busy to oversee me."). the director of tech resigned last week. i have an appointment with the superintendent on monday. VanceS: maybe it will go well for you? NinaTL: I am sure we all wish you luck with this interview, Jeff JeffC: thanks RitaZ: yes, Jeff, the best NinaTL: There could be no one better qualified to do this job, surely! JeffC: you're all free to call him up and offer your support! JeffC: hehe VanceS: can we meet him in second life? VanceS: or skype him? NinaTL: Seriously, how about if we email him about how supportive and helpful you are here? JeffC: uh... this superintendent doesn't even have a *first* life! NinaTL: LOL RitaZ: lol JeffC: hey... i'd be happy with that Nina. RitaZ: we could each send a message, Jeff, overwhelm him! VanceS: doesn't sound like the ideal person to work for, but a job's a job NinaTL: Almost any job is preferable to no job NinaTL: but life is so much richer when the job is fulfilling AndrewP: he is typical of many of those "tenured" in education in the US and part of the reason why we in the US are losing our education ranking worldwide and why corporations like Manpower are by-passing the system because of the lack of knowledge of their new hires in this 21st Century Global Digital Economy JeffC: His name is Jack Musser. Here is his email address: jmusser@fgsd.k12.or.us NinaTL: and the colleagues and supervisors congenial! ElizabetMD joined the room. JeffC: here is his webpage: http://www.fgsd.k12.or.us/Default.aspx?tabid=47 RitaZ: do you give us the ok to write, Jeff? NinaTL: What's the exact title of the position you are seeking, Jeff? JeffC: sure... feel free. RitaZ: uhhhh, give us the position, all details, pl ElizabetMD left the room (signed off). JeffC: i'd like to think of myself as tech-curricular support staff NinaTL: Is that the official position? JeffC: one of the things i'm going to try and convince him is to hire me and one or two others, rather than spending another 100K on a new tech director. ElizabetMD joined the room. JeffC: no... i'm trying to create it in lieu of what he'll probably do... hire another admin to take the place of the last one (who wasn't an educator at all). AndrewP: how poltical is the situation in your area, Jeff when it comes to hiring at the District level NinaTL: Welcome, Elizabeth JeffC: as it is everywhere Andrew... politics in education. AndrewP: yes, sad by true JeffC: the superintendent doesn't really get tech. NinaTL: I see Elizabeth is new to Tapped In JeffC: he's into AYP, NCLB and raising mandated test scores. AndrewP: neither do most Chancellors ElizabetMD left the room (signed off). RitaZ: great, Jeff, count on our messages, maybe they can add some backing, who knows... NinaTL: People don't have a choice about being into NCLB AndrewP: are there many failing schools in his District NinaTL: Neither administrators nor teachers JeffC: the district has been very successful in beating the NCLB system... they focus almost exclusively on tests at the high school level... as a result, they've received awards for improvement. NinaTL: nor students NinaTL: It's scandalous AndrewP: but what happens in the lower grades what's they success there especially in Middle School AndrewP: and in urban center JeffC: see... my problem is that i would rather rebel than acquiesce. JeffC: which is why i'll never be an administrator. NinaTL: in Prince George's County MD, a former colleague of mine teaching beginning ESOL was told to ignore the real beginners in her elementary school and to spend all her time on those who had a prayer of passing the mandated testing JeffC: i got into teaching because "school sucks." NinaTL: Shocking JeffC: and it still does... but now it "sux." NinaTL: A true son of Berkeley! JeffC: i'm all about getting teachers/students etc. motivated and rocking with the Net. JeffC: instead of being bored out of their minds by standardized approaches to standards. NinaTL: I'd advise you not to stress the rocking with the Net aspect in your interview NinaTL: It doesn't sound like this guys would appreciate that NinaTL: this guy JeffC: you can raise scores without meeting standards head on. i did that in vallejo when i taught... received a $500 bonus for raising test scores yet i never taught to tests. instead... even without net access... i arranged for keypals with my inner city kids meeting up with kids in russia. AndrewP: I think technology has to be forced on some of the intrenched administrations in the US. The unions are too strong to have it grow organically and are way behind the times when compared to other countries, like Vance's Abu Dahbi for instance NinaTL: It's going to be a hard sell, jeff, but if you can help him to see that it would be good JeffC: not any standard addressed that... but it improved their writing skills... they learned how to structure paragraphs, etc., and actually enjoyed some of what they did for a change. ElizabetMD joined the room. JeffC: yeah... at least i don't have to face what Vance does. JeffC: and at least he doesn't have to face what Buthani does! NinaTL: We have to face the fact that education being fun is not a high priority most places in the world RitaZ: learning with enjoyment..., thats the clue VanceS: abu dhabi is tech rich but not the most enlightened VanceS: still improving NinaTL: Look at Japan, where the pressure is so intense student suicide is becoming commonplace JeffC: well... it is on my computer Nina! NinaTL: ???Jeff JeffC: i'll tell him to hire me... and i'll watch over what the kids do to make sure they're not bad... give me NetOp school and secure logins. NinaTL: Hi again, Elizabeth! Can we be of assistance? JeffC: Buthani faces even more problems than Vance, Nina. NinaTL: I get it Jeff NinaTL: it = ed being fun NinaTL: What problems does Buth face? JeffC: yup... it was in kindergarten and first... but it's been downhill ever since! JeffC: sexism for one. NinaTL: I am sure of that, in Kuwait VanceS: she is in an odd situation, a very political one, where people can use their status in country to maintain entrenched positions JeffC: not to mention a completely atavistic approach to tech dating back to the 4th century. NinaTL: LOL AndrewP: well gang, I"m off to make my first pot of coffee and catch up on the morning national news . It's been great see some of you in the upcoming BAW08 session. Have a great week. bye for now AndrewP left the room (signed off). ElizabetMD: Hello...new here...as part of a course I'm taking. I'm supposed to have my "course" Under favorite places--not there--anyone here help? Or I'll jsut wait until the help desk is available NinaTL: Thanks for stopping by, Andy, c u soon at Alado JeffC: right... and as we all know... profs don't like to step outside of their comfort zone... which has made her thesis very difficult to proceed. NinaTL: Jeff is helpdesk, Elizabeth RitaZ: bye, Andy, so good to have been with you today! JeffC: I'm on Helpdesk Elizabeth... what's your course? Who's your prof? DennisOl: I wish I'd been here to say "Take care" to Andy P. RitaZ . o O ( too late :-( ) NinaTL: Most people like to stay in their comfort zone! JeffC: type faster dennis! ElizabetMD: Jeff, Course is through AICE Prof is Stephen York JeffC: 85 wpm here... how about you? DennisOl . o O ( too late for me, too! :-( ) DennisOl: It isn't a matter of typing, Jeff. I was AFK. NinaTL: I don't touch type NinaTL: I have to look at the keyboard while I type NinaTL: It's a drag! DennisOl: I probably type faster than 100 wpm. RitaZ: Im a very slow typer, need to look at the keyboard..:-( JeffC: wow Elizabeth... the whole right side of your profile is blank! NinaTL: I can't follow the chat while I type JeffC: first time I've ever seen that. BarbaraS1: nice to see all of you....I have to go run some errands NinaTL: Rita, my twin! JeffC: did you join Tapped In by clicking a link from an email he sent you? NinaTL: Bye, Bobbi, nice to chat with you here as always DennisOl: Bibbi, it was great to be with you again! DennisOl: Many hugs! DennisOl: Bibbi? Bobbi! VanceS: what errands, Bobbi? BarbaraS1: bye thanks...you too, and hundreds of hugs JeffC: Elizabeth... I'm going to open a private chat with you. RitaZ: bye, Bobbi! DennisOl: (That's what happens when I type at breakneck speed.) BarbaraS1: hotbreads cant find our place BarbaraS1: i have to direct them BarbaraS1: yeah BarbaraS1: bye NinaTL: Bon appetit DennisOl: Hotbreads? NinaTL: Must be a food delivery service? BarbaraS1: thanks, they make nice chicken rolls DennisOl: Yu, yum! DennisOl: Yum, yum! BarbaraS1: yes, but they are very small and not great at finding places BarbaraS1: I'll go out and meet them i guess DennisOl: Sounds like me, Bobbi! DennisOl: (not being great at finding places) BarbaraS1: yum, they are tasty though NinaTL: Yes, I am becoming more and more spatially challenged as I get older BarbaraS1: oh me too BarbaraS1: lost all the time DennisOl: Odd, isn' ElizabetMD left the room (signed off). BarbaraS1: bye nice to see all of you BarbaraS1 left the room (signed off). DennisOl: isn't it, how some things change as we get older? NinaTL: Elizabeth is struggling JeffC leaves the room to go in search of her class. ElizabetMD joined the room. DennisOl: I used to pride myself on muti-tasking. NinaTL: I think she was having trouble picking out her messages among all the otehrs DennisOl: I find it much more difficult now. NinaTL: Beth, jeff just went looking for your class DennisOl: Ironically, I probably multi-task BETTER now! NinaTL: Beth, please wait here until Jeff returns JeffC: i'm still here NinaTL: OK BjB joined the room. NinaTL: Hi BJ JeffC is leaving momentarily... and I have a private chat going on with her. VanceS: hi BJ DennisOl: Hi, BJ. BjB waves hi JeffC: Bj... take a look at Elizabeth's profile. NinaTL: How are things? BjB hugs warmly RitaZ hugs BJ warmly DennisOl waves back DennisOl: BJ: Thanks for your patience with me last week. JeffC left the room. DennisOl: I had too many windows open and eventually my computer crashed. NinaTL: BJ, did you know I gave my own mini-tour of TI to a tiny group of BaWers last week? VanceS: oh, have you guys sen blackle? VanceS: seen NinaTL: blackle? DennisOl: Consequently, I was present for only a portion of your tour. BjB: yes, I was here for part of it, Nina! Congratulations! VanceS: http://www.blackle.com/ DennisOl: Nina, you're amazing! NinaTL: It went pretty well, ecept for Natasha;'s technical problems which I really couldn't deal with BjB: no problem, Dennis. Happens to us all from time to time NinaTL: I was kind of surprised at how much I have learned about TI NinaTL: It has happened gradually over 2 years DennisOl: I know, BJ, but it's frustrating all the same. BjB nods solemnly to Dennis VanceS: someone had the idea that if Google had a black screen instead of whte, for all th hits it gets, how many kwatts it consumes BjB: Nina, you might want to think about becoming a helpdesk volunteer for Tapped In NinaTL: When I retire, BJ NinaTL: I would love to do that DennisOl: Blackle looks really good, Vance. NinaTL: Vance, have you set your homepage to Blackle? NinaTL: I really like my iGoogle homepage though DennisOl: BJ: No need to be solemn. I look at those frustrations as learning opportunities. VanceS: no my hp is on vancestevens.com RitaZ: I love my Protopage default page, with all my everyday links I need...;-) NinaTL: Lots of good tips on the Energy Saving Tips page VanceS: can you share protopage? VanceS: MC showed me his netvibes VanceS: but apparently he can't share it RitaZ: not sure about it, will find out, Vance NinaTL: Most of the tips have long been incorporated into my life VanceS: whereas with Pageflakes, designed for sharing RitaZ: good thought, V DennisOl: Rita: ProtoPage looks a lot like Flock to me. NinaTL: I think computers add more to the environmental problems than most people realize, what with energy use and also recycling problems (toxic materials) RitaZ: and I use flock as well RitaZ: like it NinaTL: Flock sounds too much like swearing for my taste! DennisOl: I like Flock, too, Rita. RitaZ: why, Nina? NinaTL: I have a friend who uses it that way NinaTL: She says , "Oh, flock!" when she is mad RitaZ: lol DennisOl: hee hee hee NinaTL: so I have been conditioned VanceS: what social features has flock built in? RitaZ: they should change the "f"..., may be Block? NinaTL: Re: saving energy, I recommend you all read 'The ravaging Tide' by Mike Tidwell ElizabetMD: Jeff-thank you NinaTL: about global warming NinaTL: and energy use NinaTL: hurricanes and rising sea levels NinaTL left the room (signed off). RitaZ: what I like about flock is that it brings back all the urls youve been browsing when you turn on your oc again, very smart in cad¡se your pc crashes VanceS: You can add pages to your Protopage space, and make those pages public or private individually. A mechanism for inviting friends is furnished, but there's no integrated social action here. You share you page by giving someone the URL, and, of course, friends can build link panels with each other's addresses. DennisOl: Vance: Flock was created to be a social-media-oriented browser. VanceS: http://rss.weblogsinc.com/2005/12/07/protopage-ajax-driven-personal-pages/ ElizabetMD: Jeff--am I all set now? RitaZ: thanks, speedy Vance VanceS: rita, Mozilla also recovers from crashes with restored URLs ElizabetMD left the room. VanceS: well, Flock is mozilla based, mabye that's why RitaZ . o O ( being with Vance and Dennis you dont need to do research yourself ) DennisOl: Vance: This is one thing the Flock "About Us" page says: DennisOl: When using Flock, people can easily discover, access, create and share videos, photos, blogs, feeds and comments across social communities, media providers, and popular websites. NinaTL joined the room. DennisOl: It also says this: DennisOl: "Flock is focused on fundamentally evolving the browser, bringing a refreshing new approach to how people use and participate on the web and simplifying social and web-based applications by bringing them one step closer to the user and integrating them directly into the browser." DennisOl: I downloaded it some time ago, but only recently began using it. NinaTL: Sorry, thrown out again! Who's the bouncer here? VanceS: that's helpful Dennis VanceS: I don't 'get' it yet DennisOl: Get what? VanceS: I've seen these additions come in panels on my browser VanceS: how the things you mentioned in that quote work VanceS: I have to 'get' it VanceS: I 'get' tags, I 'get' twitter VanceS: I don't 'get' flock yet, but want to know DennisOl: Ah, I see what you mean. VanceS: something is going on there DennisOl: I think what Fllock is all about is having easy, quick access to features that are social in nature--feeds, photos, etc. DennisOl: See this (also from the "About" page): DennisOl: "Flock was founded on the vision that the web browser can and should enable the richest user experience possible across information-gathering, sharing, communication, self-expression and interaction. DennisOl: Every individual has their own unique preference for favorite sites, utilities, media and friends. Flock’s philosophy is to deliver a more personal experience of the web, where its users are in control and more connected to what they value. Flock is committed to working with our vibrant community and best of breed partners to allow users to be everywhere they care about, from one single place." VanceS: the splash screen now says "Flock, the social web browser" DennisOl: Yes. VanceS: There's a People sidebar now VanceS: and below that you can activate facebook, flickr, twitter, or YouTube in th people sidebar VanceS: speaking of people, some have just appeared at the door DennisOl: Yep. Also, see this (from a section headed "Like anything, browsing is better with your friends": DennisOl: * DennisOl: * DennisOl: Share Easily DennisOl: * DennisOl: Discover and Know DennisOl: Download Flock 1.0 DennisOl: If you're already a web multi-tasker, Flock frees you to be as proficient as you want DennisOl: * Reach friends across multiple networks DennisOl: * Stay fully connected, no matter where you are on the web DennisOl: * Be the first to see changes in your universe VanceS . o O ( don't they know I'm online?? ) DelinC: These sidebars are called facilitators? DennisOl . o O ( Who is 'they'? ) VanceS: ok, gonna say hi for aminute RitaZ: Graham is giving a talk on Teen Grid today at SL, anybody coming? VanceS: real people, at my door VanceS: just came in VanceS: what time graham? DennisOl: Ah, I see. VanceS: I have it somewhere NinaTL: with the chicken sandwiches? VanceS: hah RitaZ: ah, we got mixed up, Vance :-) VanceS: yeah, like ghosts in the material RitaZ: 20.30 GMT DennisOl: What time will Graham be at SL today? DennisOl: Thanks! DelinC: which website? NinaTL: Only in chat can you see the answer before the question! RitaZ: lol DennisOl: Yes, where at SL, Rita? Do you have a URL or a SLURL? NinaTL: What's a slurl? RitaZ: a min, Dennis, pl NinaTL: It sounds like a nasty comment DennisOl: A Second Life URL. NinaTL: of course NinaTL: how silly of me DennisOl: Gracias, Rita. DennisOl: Why "How silly"? I wondered the same thing until someone told me. DelinC: get into http://slurl.com. DennisOl: To make it worse, SLURL is often written in lower case. That makes it even harder to understand! RitaZ: The session will be about the differences between running educational projects on the Teen and Main Grids of Second Life and will be sharing my experience so far of being involved in setting up a three-island virtual self-access centre for language learners RitaZ: I'll be looking mainly at the project that I've been involved with for the British Council, which recently opened in beta on the Teen Grid. We have just started running a trial with EFL students and I should be ready to report on the first impressions and have their feedback for this session. RitaZ: There's more Info here: RitaZ: http://www.theconsultants- e.com/edunation/educationedunation.asp DennisOl: Xie-sie, Delin! VanceS: like a URL spoken by someone who's had tee many martoonies DennisOl: Luvit, Vance! DennisOl chuckles then goes into a ROTFL DennisOl: an ROTFL??? DennisOl: Or too many ouzos, right, Nina? VennyS left the room (signed off). NinaTL: Only you know, Dennis NinaTL: I stay away from ouzo myself NinaTL: haha DennisOl: I DEFINITELY know! RitaZ: well, guys, Its time for me to leave, wont be here next Sunday, going to a friend's house on the beach ;-)), for a week. Have a great week, all of you! DelinC left the room (signed off). DennisOl: I also stay away from ouzo because of one profoundly bad experience! DelinC joined the room. BjB left the room (signed off). NinaTL: Bye Rita, see you online DennisOl: Have a wonderful time, Rita! RitaZ: CU, abrazos!!! NinaTL hugs Rita DennisOl: Muchos abrazos! VanceS: beach, sailing VanceS: nice life NinaTL: I have to go get some exercise RitaZ: who's speaking...;-))) DennisOl: Y ojalá que tú pases un tiempo fantástico! NinaTL: and continue slogging through IDEA2004 DeniseG joined the room. DennisOl: WB, Delin. RitaZ: ?? NinaTL: special education law DennisOl: Hi, Denise.
